Five Under Fifty 1.5

Five Friday Favorites Fifty and Less October 20 2017

The leaves are changing and the temps have certainly dropped.  I am LOVING this weather, it is truly my favorite time of year!!  (That may or may not have something to do with my birthday being on Monday…eeeekkkk!!)  But, I do love me a great scarf, a pom pom hat and a jean jacket.  And, I have truly fallen in love with cardigans…who what have thunk it?!?!

Make sure you’re following on Instastories and Facebook Stories, it is my sister’s Bachelorette Weekend (on my way there now!!).  There will be TONS of pictures I will be sharing!!  Spa, wine tasting and maybe a Pantie Game (insert angel halo emoji!!) is on the agenda for the weekend!!

Oversized Square Scarf in Plaid – $29

My gosh, these oversized scarves completely scream Fall and I love it!!  I adore the traditional plaid in the one above, but I am also loving the grey herringbone check or the pink gingham check (obviously ;-)) or this black and red check (reminds of a Burberry scarf).

Faux Fur Trim Knit Tech Gloves – $32

How adorable are these gloves??  I personally like the grey because it would go so well with most of our (we are all guilty!!) black winter coats.  But, there are 10 colors to choose from it’s IPhone friendly!!

Denim Jacket – $36.99

If you do not already own the perfect jean jacket, now is the time to grab one.  I love the color on this one.  Not too dark and certainly far from white washed.  Jean jackets are just soooo versatile!!

Knitted Chunky Pom Pom Hat – $45

Would it make your day like it did mine to know this hat (and so many more) are made right here in St. Mary’s?!?!  How warm does this look??  You will see me rocking one soon on the blog!!

Rib Trim Long Cardigan – $49

So, this is my favorite pick this week.  Why…because it is so darn functional.  I used to think cardigans were so frumpy.  I used to think of my nanny that we had for over 10 years, an elderly lady and she always had one on and it was not cute.  Things have changed!!  They are trendy and anything that keeps me warm, I am a FAN!!

Best Fall Dress Under $40

It is pretty darn chilly outside all mornings this week.  Does that get anyone else excited about layering?!?!  It does me!!  I love layering…to me it’s the perfect opportunity to add an extra something to an otherwise fairly simple outfit.  A chambray shirt, for example, is cool and chic with ANY outfit.

I get a bit excited about this dress.  It is ridiculously comfortable, it has pockets and it’s so AFFORDABLE at $39.  It comes in 6 colors and shocker, I chose the pink one 😉  I did have to think about the grey…how cute with black OTK (over the knee) boots?!?!

But, my favorite little detail, the ruffles on the sleeves.  It is the perfect addition of girly, but not over the top.

Peter's 41st Birthday

Peter’s 41st Birthday

Hi friends!!  How’s it going this Tuesday??  It’s a busy week for me, but something SUPER FUN is waiting for me at the end…my sister’s BACHELORETTE PARTY!!!  I CANNOT wait!!!   In the meantime though, we celebrating a birthday a couple weeks ago (I know, I know, another one…hahaha) and I wanted to share a quick post on it 🙂

2 weeks ago, Peter turned 41.  We had a very small dinner party at our house.  I reached out to No Thyme to Cook only 2 days before his birthday and lucky for me, they had just had a cancelation and could fit me in.

We discussed a menu, Gwyn sent me choices and we decided on –

SALAD – Spinach & Radicchio Salad with Pears, Goat Cheese & Toasted Pine Nuts with Honey-Orange Dressing

ENTREE – Cranberry-Orange Glazed Pork Loin

SIDES – Orzo with Olive-Mustard Butter & Lemon Roasted Green Beans

DESSERT – Pumpkin Caramel Bars with Bacon

This salad was INCREDIBLE!!  My girlfriend Nicole and I were discussing it again yesterday.  It was that good.  The combination of goat cheese, pears and pine nuts…PERFECTION!!

Then the main dish…YUMMY.  I decided on Pork because so many of the other dishes were chicken and steak.  I know those would have been just as delicious but we make so many of those at home already…lots of variations, so I wanted something outside our dinner box.

The cranberry orange glaze really made this dish for me.  But the pork itself was unbelievably moist and cooked perfectly.  And, the orzo with the olive-mustard butter was soooooo delicious!!  I will certainly make that side again and again and again!!

As you can imagine, lots of fun was had!!  Mike and Peter could not hold back on the cream cheese frosting leftovers.

And this little girl!!  Her personality is infectious!!  I didn’t even know she had taken my shoes when I went upstairs to put Shay down.  Too darn cute!!  And thanks to whoever grabbed my phone and scored this shot!!

Then there was dessert!!!  So. darn. good.  With a name like Pumpkin, Salted Caramel, Bacon cupcakes, how can they not be OUTSTANDING?!?!?

These were as delicious as they look!!  You can find the recipe here.

It was the best last minute dinner decision ever.  I highly recommend No Thyme to Cook…extremely professional and super easy to work with.  And, my kitchen was SPOTLESS when they left.  That in itself is priceless!!
