You guys, I don’t know even where to start, we just had the best weekend away and believe it or not…it revolved around fly fishing!! Never thought you would hear those words come out of my mouth, huh…hahaha.
The idea of fly fishing came around because Peter and his Dad did that together when Peter was in his late teens and early 20’s. A couple of years ago, Peter had mentioned he knew his Dad was getting older and he would really like to do that again with him. Then, unexpectedly, his Dad passed away and Peter never got that opportunity.
Last year for our anniversary, I researched where to fly fish in Maryland, found Beaver Creek Fly Shop in Hagerstown MD, purchased a guided tour for he and I and purchased this book to go along. Then life happens – work, school, sports, ruptured appendix and COVID19 so we just hadn’t had the opportunity to do it. As soon as things started opening up again, I called the shop I purchased the guided tour from and they had an opening on our anniversary weekend!! BOOKED!!
When I spoke with the guide, he said Hagerstown fly fishing was great, but if I was willing to go a bit further west, it was even better in the Deep Creek Lake area. Well, y’all know how I feel about Deep Creek Lake…done! We stayed at The Red Barn Inn…I highly recommend!!

We arrived on Friday afternoon and had dinner at Dutch’s at Silver Tree…very very good 🙂 and then were up bright and early on Saturday morning to meet our guide at the Savage River.

The top two pictures are from where we started in the morning. It may have been the most peaceful morning ever. Between hearing the river running and the birds chirping, it was literally heaven on earth.

After and hour or two, we moved down river a bit and Peter caught his first fish…a rainbow trout 🙂

I finally caught mine after lunch…a brown trout 🙂

It was such a wonderful experience. Our guide was awesome, the weather was perfect and we both caught a fish!!

For dinner, we grabbed take out from Pine Lodge and sat outside at The Short Story Brewery. It was truly the perfect ending to an amazing day!!
