Just like everyone reading this post right now, our Easter was a lot different than we had planned. We were scheduled to fly out on Good Friday to Mexico to celebrate Easter there. That was canceled. We then thought, well we could still celebrate with my parents, but canceled that as we hadn’t seen them in a bit and just didn’t think it was safe :-/ So, on Holy Saturday, we dyed Easter eggs and truly enjoyed family time.
Sunday morning was a treat!! The kids loved everything they got from the Easter bunny. The girls adored their tie dye shorts and sweatshirt they received and Shay wore his “athletic” outfit 2 days in a row…haha. They also loved their books (which all 3 are from White Rabbit). Matti Jane received Malala, Chandler received Sofia Valdez Future President and Shay loved Pilots of WWII (he’s in a phase where he’s obsessed with D Day…).
We enjoyed homemade waffles and Peter and I had mimosas after our online Mass.
Next was the Easter Scavenger Hunt I had planned. I mentioned in my post yesterday that we wanted to do a little extra since we were supposed to be in Mexico this weekend/week and because we couldn’t spend the holiday with my parents.
I originally decided on the idea of a scavenger hunt when I saw this blog. How fun!! I have never put together a scavenger hunt before so I started “researching” last week. I came across this pin on Pinterest and basically took it from there.
Our neighbors, Ron and Kathy, have always graciously offered their garden for anything when it comes to the kids. I put together clues based on parts of their gorgeous garden. I had to enlist my Mom’s help when it came to the rhyming portion of the clues. This was fun!!
(btw — we have spent a lot of time with Ron and Kathy during this quarantine, they check on us, we check on them, so we did not worry about spending some time together on Easter)
We did a total of 7 clues that landed them at the prize…which were some goodies we put together for them (pool floats, bracelet making kits for the girls, playing cards for Shay, etc)
Their first clue was located in their “packet” – a welcome page, their clue and a map…I created these on Canva.
First clue – Let’s go on a treasure hunt!! It will be such fun!! Go to the place where the Easter Bunny runs. He left you cookie & scone treats for tons delicious sweets!!
ANSWER – The Easter bunny made an early visit at Ron and Kathy’s a couple days prior and delivered ingredients to make cookies and scones. He left them on the bench below.
Second clue – Love, joy & Easter fun – Your next clue is where you can sit and relax out of the sun! Run to the left side of the lawn, now enjoy your treat before the day is gone!
ANSWER – the pergola
And, another surprise, the Easter bunny showed up in the beginning of the scavenger hunt…
Then, on to the third clue – Another clue – You’re doing great!! Head to the birds with the long necks for a view of sweet T. Now enjoy your treasure with daddy and me!
ANSWER – the herons with our boat, Sweet T, in the background
Fourth clue – This scavenger hunt has been a lot of fun, but wait a minute….we are not done! Go to where the birds like to play and you can hear them sing and dance all day!
ANSWER – the bird bath
They headed deeper in the garden for the fifth clue.
Fifth clue – You’re almost there!! A few more clues for your final wish! Now go….one fish, two, fish, red fish blue fish!
ANSWER – the 3 blue fish in the back of the garden
Sixth clue – You’re getting close, this clue is tricky!! You’re getting closer it could get sticky. Head to the flowers to find your treat where there is copper on top of the large black towers!!
ANSWER – 2 obelisks
The seventh and final clue – You’re almost done!! It’s time to find your prize!! Go to where you would get on the jet ski for a big surprise!!
ANSWER – down on Ron and Kathy’s pier
Finally, once the scavenger hunt was done, the Easter bunny had additional Easter baskets for the kids (Thank you again Ron and Kathy!!).
We really had the best day, especially considering the COVID19 circumstances. Ron told Peter and I, having the kids there and doing the scavenger hunt truly made it feel like Easter for them. Ron and Kathy, we cannot thank you enough for allowing us to use your beautiful garden…again 🙂
