It is hard to believe we were on vacation a week and a half ago. We are completely back in the go-go-go routine, that I cannot believe I was relaxing on the beach just that short of a time ago. And it was relaxing!! I feel like we are finally at a stage where the kids are a bit more independent…sad and wonderful at the same time.
The kids, myself and my mother-in-law left a day early because our check-in weekend was the same as the Southern Maryland Amateur Golf Tournament at Breton Bay (our neighborhood). So, how do I say this nicely ;-), but the kids and I get kicked out this weekend because it just makes sense for Peter’s 4some to stay at the house, right?!?! If you just read “frat party”, so did I…hahaha.
We stayed at The Sanderling in Duck on Friday night. Beautiful resort on the ocean 🙂 Our favorite part was the huge fire pits where we could roast our (complimentary) smores set!!
We had breakfast at The Sanderling on Saturday morning and then headed a bit north to Corolla. We were still too early to check in so we checked out The Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education. It was wonderful, very educational and we all agreed, Chris (my father-in-law) would have been in heaven. I joked I would have needed a child leash to pull him along and out of there, hahaha.
We still had a bit of time to waste once my parents and my brother, Michael, and his family arrived. The wonderful thing about the neighborhood resort we stayed in (Corolla Light), was a community pool which we were able to use before our house was ready to check in.
My niece Lilly, had finally let Chandler hold her and well, she peed on her, right through the pool diaper…hahaha
Chandler wasn’t sure how she felt about it, but laughed at the end 😉
Once we checked in, it was time to enjoy the beach!!!
We went out to dinner only one night. Finding a reservation for a party of 14 was not easy. But the restaurant, Mike Dianna’s, was great and we all had fun getting a bit more dressed up. Well, maybe just the girls and I 😉 Shay did not want to wear his cute little blazer until a couple of older (cooler) guys said “hey dude, we like your blazer”. He never took it off!!!

4th of July was pretty awesome!! It started by taking an early morning bike breakfast to grab breakfast, then came home to decorate our bikes. Corolla Light neighborhood held a bike decorating contest (which our family won!!) and then we rode in a parade behind a couple of firetrucks. It was very very cool. Then, after some time at the beach, we had dinner at home, had some fun with decorations my girlfriend Amanda had brought and then went to watch fireworks 🙂

We had to be out of the house by 10 AM on the last day, Saturday. We decided to book a Wild Horse Tour, but still had some time to kill so we did a little family bumper car-ing. So. Fun. Our initial thought was to miss all the early morning traffic out of town. But then, our friends, the Magees, extended an invitation to us to stay Saturday night at their place. So glad we did, we had the afternoon and evening to catch up!!
We then did the Wild Horse Tour along the beaches of Corolla. We rode in a Humvee and that was pretty fun and cool (to the kids and us, hahaha). We learned a lot about history with the horses as well as the 2 neighborhoods that are only accessible via a 4×4 vehicle that can drive on the beach.
Needless to say, after a long and so fun week, everyone was a bit tired!!
So, not only did we enjoy catching up, we had some fun with the boys 😉
Until next year!!!
