Wooooo weeee…coming off a long and fun holiday weekend, this mama is pooped. Friday, we headed to DC to see Disney on Ice. My parents gave all the grandkids that for Christmas and it was AWESOME!! #bestchristmaspresentever I’ll do a post on that this week or next! And Saturday evening, my parents took the kids for a sleepover because we were hosting a retirement dinner for one of Peter’s partners. Yesterday, we hit the gym, Wendy’s to have lunch with my Dad and nieces and then went to the movies to see A Dog’s Way Home. Great for the kids!!
About last weekend though!! NYC is a favorite spot of the whole family’s. We spent our Spring Break there last year (see that post here) and could not resist coming back as soon as possible. The idea generated this past Thanksgiving while we were in Connecticut celebrating the holiday with Peter’s family. Most of his family lives in NJ, CT and MA. All the cousins that are my kids’ ages get along so. darn. well. and it just stinks that we live so far away and only see one anther about once a year. So, this Thanksgiving, Cindy (Peter’s cousin’s wife) and Emily (Peter’s sister) and I committed to getting together sooner vs later. No one had seen The Lion King on Broadway, and after agreeing on a weekend, we bought tickets and booked hotels.
We got into the City around 630 on Friday evening. We checked into our hotel and then headed to dinner at Serafina to meet Peter’s cousin Collin, his wife Cindy and their 2 kids, Lauren and John. We stayed out the JW Marriott because it was close to Collin and Cindy and just a great location in general being right at Central Park.
The Burrata appetizer at Serafina was to die for and the Strawberry and Basil Martini was delish!!
After dinner, we headed to Milk. A friend of Peter’s had told him their ice cream (Fruity Pebbles Ice Cream at that!!) and “Crack Pie” were all worth it…his friend was spot on!!
Saturday AM we woke up ready to take on New York City. I will say, we could hear the wind blowing from our window and it was not going to get over 30…so we LAY.ER.ED.
We took a morning stroll through the city.
We met Cindy and Collin for breakfast at a great teeny tiny NYC diner…so so good!! We then headed to the Central Park Zoo. We did not go here for some reason last year and I have no idea why because it was AWESOME. I highly recommend!!
The 4D movie at the Zoo was awesome as well!!!
After the Central Park Zoo, we headed to Dylan’s Candy Bar…Matti Jane and Lauren were begging to go. Needless to say, the Mom’s had fun too with “Unicorn Cotton Candy”…hahaha
Then, we hit the subway (my kids had never been on the subway before) and went to Grand Central Station and had lunch at The Grand Central Oyster Bar & Restaurant.
Saturday outfit details – my coat, my boots, my leggings // the girls’ hats, the girls’ gloves, the girls coats, the girls boots, the girls’ leggings // Shay’s coat, Shay’s boots (similar), Shay’s jeans //
After lunch, we headed back to our hotels and rested for about an hour until it was time to head to the BIG EVENT – The Lion King on Broadway!! We Uber’d this time and were so so so excited for the show!!
My sister-in-law made dinner reservations beforehand at Dos Caminos right in Times Square so we were able to walk to the theatre.
John was asleep by the Intermission, however, don’t let these smiles fool you, my kids were begging for bed after the show. It was a long and very exciting day!!
Sunday morning, we slept in a tad, then headed downstairs to take a carriage ride around Central Park. First, the girls fed the horse carrots, but Shay wanted nothing to do with it. I don’t see veterinarian school in his future 😉
After our nice, relaxing but VERY cold carriage ride, we headed the same diner we had eaten the day before and grabbed more grub…diner style 😉
We then got on the subway again and headed to Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village. Hot chocolates and teas were definitely on the agenda!!!
There was a great park in the square and the kids had a blast.
The arch was dedicated in 1895 and the park is name after George Washington. There are 2 different statues on either side of the arch, different stages in Washington’s life. Very cool, especially for the history buffs out there!!
We had such a GREAT time, Matti Jane is asking to go there for her birthday. I don’t think I can turn down another super fun adventure in the city. Maybe…Frozen the Broadway Musical next?!?!
My Sunday outfit details (the kids are pretty much wearing the same things ;-)) – my coat (XS), my moto leggings (XS), my hat, my tennis shoes (size 5), my sunglasses

Looks awesome! I need to plan a trip, is this the same place you stayed last time? Did you take the train in or drive?

No, we stayed more midtown last time and really loved staying at Central Park this time. I highly recommend the JW Marriott, Essex House. We drove…and it was good that we did because we decided to make an extra trip to Peter’s sister’s house on the way home 🙂
