Last week I hosted our monthly Book Club. Because I was hosting, I got to choose the book. I chose The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. I chose that book because her book The Nightingdale was SO GOOD.
If you know me, you know I have issues with hosting. I like to have fun with the decorations. Others would say I take it over the top and some of it is unnecessary 😉 But, if I get an idea in my head and then I don’t complete it, I think of myself as lazy or a slacker. Again, I already admitted I had issues 😉 So, because of everything last week and only getting home on Wednesday and hosting on Thursday, I limited myself to 3 decorations. 2 were from the Dollar Store and I had planned the 3rd while on the road.
I wanted to make a table runner out of book pages after being inspired by this picture on Pinterest. I purchased a book at the Dollar Store and went to town on Wednesday night. I was going to use scissors to take the pages out nice and neatly but A. I liked the raw edge and B. it saved a tiny bit of time just pulling them out.
I used E6000 glue and it worked perfectly. It was completely dry by Thursday morning and on the table it went 🙂
The second “decoration” I purchased from the Dollar Store was gummy worms. DO YOU GET IT?!?! If you don’t…BOOK WORM!! I know, I know, I am a NERD! But I get very excited about those little details 😉
My third “decoration” was custom cookies from Kathryn’s Crafty Cakes. These obviously did not cost $1, but worth every penny. Let me also tell you…I did not ask Kathryn to make these cookies look like the actual book cover…just resemble a book. She, as usual, took it to the next level and did just that. She asked what book we were discussing and TA DA!!
The evening was full of great friends and great conversations and these 3 small decorations just added to the enjoyable atmosphere!! Next time I host, I will remember to ask Peter to take pictures of us actually discussing the book 😉

I absolutely love this post!!! I tend to get carried away too when I host. I hosted my book club right after my trip to London last year so I was inspired to make it Afternoon Tea style. I even made my own clotted cream from scratch as well as scones and egg salad sandwiches. I think all the ladies thought I was crazy! But thanks for the idea you’ve given me for the next time I host. I might have to steal it!

I LOVE that idea!! I also made salmon bites as they mostly only ate salmon in Alaska at that time, so I love that you ran with high tea/London theme!! Please steal my idea, what a compliment!! I promise it was super easy and surprisingly quick 🙂 We live too far away :-/

This is beyond adorable. I’ve always wanted to join a book club but don’t know where to start. If I ever get to I will be stealing the table runner idea 🙂

Thank you Jill!! It would be such a compliment if you stole the idea!! Also, we just began ours at the beginning of the year. Literally, grab a couple of friends and each month someone chooses a book.
