Somehow in all the chaos of school beginning, sports going full speed and lots of events for my sister’s wedding, we managed to fit in a trip to Michigan this past weekend. The Michigan/Michigan State game was the main activity, but what motivated this trip was a visit from one of Peter’s fraternity brother and his family this past Summer. All of our lives are so busy, that making time for old friends can be so difficult and all too often, never actually happens. When Chris, Amanda and their 3 amazing kiddos made the time to visit us from Michigan, we knew we had to keep it going. Plane tickets booked, Michigan football tickets purchased and an awesome family willing to welcome by crazy crew, we had a date on the calendar!!
We had a VERY EARLY morning…Peter and I woke up at 4 AM, and got the kids up at 430. Needless to say, we had some sleepers on the way to the airport 😉
But, everyone did great on the plane. Chandler’s first plane ride was when she was 6 months old and Shay has never been on a plane, so this was a very exciting trip!!
And the Delta staff was amazing…cockpit visits and special wing pins!!
We arrived in Michigan around 930 AM and it was raining. That was no surprise to me as every. single. time. I have visited the state of Michigan, it has been cold and rainy. Peter is from Michigan, the suburbs of Detroit and that is where we met and the first part of our dating began.
We chilled at our friend’s home for a couple hours and caught up. When another of Peter’s fraternity brothers and his family arrived, we headed down to Ann Arbor for a quick tour around campus (Peter’s fraternity house!!), a great dinner and some Michigan gear shopping at the M Den.
The fact that he was sucking his thumb again told me he was EXHAUSTED!!!
There was actually an adult table and a kids table!!! There is light at the end of the exhausting tunnel 😉
Saturday AM we got everyone and everything organized for a Michigan tailgate. The kids tailgated with us but headed home for the game. When the time changed to the night game, we decided it wasn’t a great idea to include the kids at the game…GREAT DECISION!!
After the tailgating, Peter and I and the rest of the parents headed into the Big House. 2 and a 1/2 quarters we had PERFECT weather. But you know when there is a stadium announcement that the storm is about 10 minutes away and includes relentless rain and 50 mph winds…and that if lightning happens w/in 10 miles of the stadium, the game will be postponed…it was LEGIT and to be take seriously!!
I have never purchased a poncho before but something told me the night before to spend $5 on them and it was the best decision I made!!
Game performance resembled the weather that last quarter and a half of the game. The Wolverines did not come to play which was very disappointing. But, a GREAT weekend overall. GREAT friends and GREAT times. We all hope to make this an annual tradition!!
