Today is my ninth edition in My Friday Favorites in Southern Maryland Series. I discovered Woodlawn Farm a couple years ago when I attended a high school girlfriend’s wedding at this picturesque location. Between the long gorgeous driveway to the breathtaking water views and the manor home, you actually feel like you have been transported to the countryside in Europe.
If you are looking for the most relaxing Sunday you could imagine, you need to spend a Sunday afternoon at Woodlawn Farm in Ridge, Maryland.
Adirondack chairs galore and complimentary wine tasting…that is pretty much my ideal combination. Woodlawn Farm encourages their guests to bring picnic baskets with munchies and blankets and just relax. You are able to purchase a glass or bottle of wine from their tasting room.
I was there this past Sunday and the weather was perfect – high 70’s, a breeze and not a cloud in the sky. How could you not enjoy yourself??
Each Sunday, from 12-6, there is a Farmer’s Market as well as live music. Last week Coastline was playing and they were awesome!! Check out the schedule for upcoming musical acts at the Woodlawn Courtyard.
Fresh produce, popcorn St. Indigoes Coffee and Tobacco Barn Distillery rums and bourbons were there to purchase. This will continue through the Winter.
Back to my original visit to Woodlawn Farm…for a friend’s wedding. When I tell you the property is breathtaking, it’s almost magical. If you take a look around at the historical venue, you easily question what century you’re in as well as what country.
If you are a history buff, well here is ground zero. Woodlawn is Maryland’s first estate, deeded in 1634 to Leonard Calvert, Maryland’s first governor, as part of Trinity Manor.
The Manor House was completed by an American Revolution Colonel. He kept his boat (of the same name) at the front door, less than 100 feet to the shoreline alongside Calvert Creek.
Even the landscape of boxwoods is a tribute to the property’s history and the mile long driveway up to the front door is continuing the understated elegance.
But, even if you are visiting Woodlawn Farm to relax, have a glass of wine while enjoying live music and not as a wedding guest, you truly capture all of it’s natural beauty.
The tasting room is the sweetest small structure I have ever seen. The ceiling woodwork is eye catching and the ambiance is perfect if you are looking for a casual yet sophisticated afternoon.
The property is kid-friendly and pet-friendly…put a Sunday afternoon at Woodlawn Farm on your calendars!!
