Today is my eighth edition in My Friday Favorites in Southern Maryland Series. This love affair began 3 1/2 years ago when I discovered this little piece of heaven when good friends of Peter and mine were interviewing at Peter’s practice and stayed at the Blue Heron Bed & Breakfast. We met them there on a Sunday morning and enjoyed breakfast together. I had no idea the Inn was there and between the amazing food and relaxing atmosphere, I knew I would be back!!
Last weekend, we were fortunate enough to spend a couple nights there and it was the best staycation!!! We were greeted by Regan, the Inn Keeper, once we arrived.
Regan is incredible…she’s personable, informative yet also understands and appreciates that you are there to enjoy your time away. She is truly passionate as this is a labor of love and began as a family affair. This Charleston Colonial Home was built in 1998 and converted to a Bed and Breakfast in 2002 by her father. She became the Innkeeper in February, 2013.
How awesome are the pineapple shudders?!?! Did you know that pineapples symbolize those intangible blessings we love about a home – warmth, welcome, friendship and hospitality. How perfectly appropriate?!?!
We stayed in Suite 2…so incredibly spacious. The California king size bed was perfect for a night away and the sitting room was just what we needed to RELAX. The sitting room has it’s own entrance to the balcony with the most amazing view.
Upon arrival, Regan had a charcuterie plate and wine waiting for us. We enjoyed it on our private balcony taking in the views of Back Creek and the harbor. Delicious, amazing views and so relaxing.
Peter and I LOVE charcuterie plates and have a new goal of recreating this one!!!
There is a laid back atmosphere you feel as soon as you walk in the Blue Heron Bed & Breakfast. Peter and I never actually ‘relax’ but we genuinely took time to CHILL OUT here. We felt at ease almost immediately and took advantage of the quiet after a FUN but very very active week away with the kids.
THIS VIEW!!! (The one above, not below ;-))
After some down time, we started getting ready for dinner. I had made reservations at Dry Dock Restaurant, just a little bit down the road. I had brought a couple of outfits to choose from (some things never change…haha) and between the spacious closet and gorgeous bathroom, it was a pleasure getting ready… I mean, are you dying over these stunning sinks like I did?!?!
Blue Heron Bed & Breakfast has bikes and paddleboards to use complimentarily by guests. We took the bikes to dinner…it was so fun!! (Were you watching on Instastories and Facebook Stories?!?!) If we had more time, we would have definitely used the paddleboards, it was a perfect day for that!!
You can also crab and fish from the pier and if you would like, their dock can accommodate boats up to 40 feet.
Sunday morning was just so darn enjoyable!! I woke up, had tea in bed and actually read my magazine. Certainly different from my normal Sunday mornings with 3 sets of eyes staring at me in bed asking for breakfast…hahaha
I cannot even begin to tell you how amazing our breakfast was. Peter and I both ate every single bite and that never happens!! Regan made everything in front of us while chatting about our evening. We had Sweet and Savory Grilled Cheese – Havariti cheese shredded, apricot preserves and prosciutto made on ciabatta bread. Honestly, the BEST breakfast sandwich I have EVER had.
It was served with Old Bay Hash Browns, Sunny Side Up Egg and a side of delicious watermelon.
Have I mentioned it was literally the best breakfast I can remember EVER having.
If you are local, this truly is the best staycation!! You are close to home but you feel disconnected and relaxed and leave feeling so refreshed. If you are not local, STAY HERE!! There are so many great restaurants in walking distance. The Lighthouse Restaurant is literally next door and there is a path from the Inn to The Island Hideaway along the Back Creek!! Calvert Marine Museum is less than a mile from the Inn. The Museum is a favorite of my family’s and there are often great concerts there…(like tonight!!)
Regan offers government rates Monday-Thursday night for Pax River employees and contractors. The Inn is open year round and hosts a variety of events – weddings, rehearsal dinners, receptions, showers, anniversaries and holiday parties.

Just added this place to our list. Colin and I are always looking for something to do for a date night/weekend but not be too far way. You just sold me on this place, thank you!! I love the bike idea to Dry Dock and literally just told Colin on Saturday we needed to go there. Plus I’ve wanted to try paddleboards since your first post about them. Thanks for sharing with us your entire stay, it’s great to see the down time looks too. Love the blazer.
