Today is the 4th edition of My Friday Favorites in Southern Maryland and I am talking about a place that is close to my heart – Yellow Door Art Studio in the Historic Town Square of Leonardtown. Carrie Patterson, the studio owner as well as an amazing artist, has become a friend over the last couple of years. Yellow Door Art Studio is also where we had Chandler’s 2nd birthday and to say it was a HIT, is actually an understatement. Check out those pictures here.
Shay was only 4 months old, so having Chandler’s party at the house was not an option for this new mama of 3 (3, 2 and 4 months at the time!!). Chandler LOVED to draw at the time, so this was the perfect idea!!
There are so many ideas for the birthday girl or boy to choose from to paint … my kids certainly could not narrow it down during our recent visit. Matti Jane was twirling in excitement around Poppy, Belle and then had her breath taken away when she spotted the Eiffel Tower. Chandler had her heart set on Peppa Pig and then spotted a sparkly unicorn. Shay saw the Super Heros and wouldn’t budge…hahaha. And they were perfectly placed right below the Minion.
We have taken a couple of Art Camps at the Studio but have been so busy this Summer that it was impossible to focus in on one camp. But, I am so happy that classes are offered at Saturday mornings. I am going to check out the schedule for Saturdays and Art for Tots (ages 2-8), 930-1130 AM, to see when I can take the kids. It is $15/session. Pre-registration is required 48 hours in advance…check out the schedule!!
Yellow Door Art Studio offers a variety of classes, workshops, camps and also private lessons. And, they are not just for kids. Custom art parties for any occasion (pre-wedding activities, birthdays, girls night out, couples night out…you name it) are for as few as 4 attendees up to 25 students.
During the Summer months, Yellow Door Art Studio offers so many cool and interesting camps for kids of all ages. We got to see young artists working on oil paintings of still life during the Titians Tabletop: Intro to Oil and Acrylic Painting.
As well as acrylic paintings…
Yellow Door Art Studio also has a Community Art Gallery where 12 exhibitions a year showcase local and national artists. The exhibitions are open each First Friday from 5-8 PM. This is also an open studio at this time where kids and adults can make a project and take it home. If you are in the Square on a First Friday, I highly recommend stopping by, checking out the impressive artwork and also have fun with your own hand on a project.
There is also a Student Gallery in the studio. The kids and I had fun looking at the artwork.
Something I am VERY EXCITED about, Yellow Door Art Studio has partnered with SPICE Studio for the Fall to offer a kids art class at the same time of SPICE Studio workout classes. Make sure to check out Yellow Door Art Studio website for days and times!!
Check out their website for current class schedules and camp information. It is honestly a guaranteed fun time!!
