I still cannot believe my baby boy is actually three years old. I truly feel like I was just pregnant with him just a short while ago. But, here I was, planning his third birthday party.
I had originally planned on having Shay’s birthday party at the National Zoo in DC…but even planning it 2 months in advance wasn’t enough time, everything was booked up. So, I will give credit where credit is due, Peter suggested the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum and what a BRILLIANT idea!!
Southern Marylander’s, it is a PERFECT place to have a birthday party if your child is in love with jets, planes and helicopters 🙂 Hillary at the front desk was incredibly wonderful to work with and the process was seamless.
I arrived an hour early to do minimal set up…who needs a lot of decorations with REAL, ACTUAL planes as your backdrop?!?!
Per usual, we had a huge bouquet of balloons accentuating Shay’s age. And, as expected, I used Kathryn’s Crafty Cakes for the cake and cookies (favors). The navy sign “Let your dreams take flight” is actually something I had purchased at Home Goods for Shay’s new big boy room so it worked perfectly as an extra decoration!!
We were fortunate to have Wes as our personal guide all day. His patience with the kids blew my mind!! He spoke to them on their level and kept them interested all tour long.
We were also fortunate enough to have Oscar, the museum’s mascot ,visit with us for a bit.
It took Shay a bit to warm up to him, but with us by his side, he did!!
Finally, we celebrated with a cake and candles and sang Happy Birthday to the birthday boy.
Happy Birthday Sweet Shay!!!
