A little secret of mine…I shop my own closet for new outfits. As soon as I receive the latest J.Crew catalog, for example, I immediately think of outfits I can totally copy without spending a cent.
A retailer like J.Crew makes it a bit easier than more trendy retailers because their pieces are so timeless and classic. But, you can truly do this with any and most fashion catalogs that come straight to your doorstep.
See how I found inspiration from the latest J.Crew Spring catalog.
Blue on Blue Nautical Look
// J.Crew Sailor Pants (30% off with code HAPPYSPRING) // J.Crew Gathered Popover Top (30% off with code HAPPYSPRING)
I just adore this classic nautical look. It truly doesn’t get much more timeless than this look. I had already purchased these high-waisted sailor pants last Fall from Zara and I added my own spin to the top with the current trend of Off The Shoulder (OTS) I purchased from Chicwish for $40 over 2 years ago. Add your favorite colorful earrings for a pop of color.
// Chicwish OTS Top ($42) // Zara Sailor Pants // Similar Pants ($25) //
Bright Pink Lady Jacket
// J.Crew Peplum Bright Fuchsia Lady Jacket (30% off with code HAPPYSPRING) //
It was the bright pop of pink on this jacket that drew me to this shot above. Every time J.Crew had a sale, I seriously considered adding this jacket to my cart…but then realized, I have a very similar one I purchased from Forever 21 over 8 years ago. (That wasn’t a typo ;-))
And that blue button-down, I have had for probably 5 years that I purchased from a Ralph Lauren outlet store.
I love the fresh and modern feel with the sleeves rolled up so high and the half tuck.
// Blue Button Down Shirt // Forever 21 Pink Blazer // Fun Tweed Jacket with Fringe Detail ($31) // Raw Hemline Jeans // Similar Jeans ($75) //
Denim on Denim with a pop of JEWELRY
// J.Crew Denim Jacket (30% off with code HAPPYSPRING) // J.Crew Chambray Top (30% off with code HAPPYSPRING) // J.Crew Honeymoon Tassel Necklace (30% off with code HAPPYSPRING) //
This is such a classic look and it crosses all styles and generations. If you don’t own both the Jacket and the Chambray top…don’t hesitate…you will wear each so often and not always together.
// J.Crew Outlet Denim Jacket (ON SALE) // Distressed Chambray Top // Stella & Dot Necklace (old) //
Seersucker and Chambray
// J.Crew Seersucker Jacket // J.Crew Chambray Bell Sleeve Top (30% off with code HAPPYSPRING) // J.Crew Jean Shorts (30% off with code HAPPYSPRING) //
I found my Seersucker Blazer a couple of years ago at either Zara or Forever 21 and got it for a ridiculous price…like $15. Seersucker is a pattern that will NEVER, EVER go out of style.
// Seersucker Blazer // Distressed Chambray Top // Raw Hemline Jeans // Similar Jeans ($75) // BaubleBar Piñata Tassel Earrings //

This is such a great idea. I need to do it more often. I usually just toss the catalogs in the recycling when they arrive so I’m not tempted to buy new stuff but next time I’m definitely going to crack it open and see what I can recreate.
