A 40th Birthday Dinner Party

October 17, 2016

The vision for this party began about 4 years ago.  We were at a local winery (I think for my husband’s 36th birthday ironically) and there was this incredible singer/guitarist that I approached and said “in 4 years my husband turns 40 and I’d love for you to be in our backyard singing while we enjoy an outdoor dinner”.  I am sure he laughed me off but can you imagine what he thought when I contacted him 3 1/2 years later?!?!  From there, I knew I wanted lights in the trees, farmhouse tables, charivari chairs, sunflowers and a bourbon tasting bar.  Let the planning begin…

Peter's 40th Birthday Party

I used a combination of my wedding China, my Mom’s China, my grandmother’s and my aunts.

I knew I wanted sunflowers as the main flower with hints of purple in the arrangement.  Well, I am the luckiest gal in the neighborhood because my neighbor LOVES flowers and gardening.  She asked for an inspiration picture and she did 10 times better than I could even imagine.  I think the flowers stole the show!!

My other amazing neighbor, Sally, does photography on the side, just as a hobby and captured all of these photos.  We were literally standing and chatting in the very beginning of the party and she says “don’t move Tiffani!!” and VOILA she captured this shot and titled it “the hostess”…hahaha

I had fun putting this fact sheet together with the help of Peter’s Mom and sister, Emily 🙂

Peter and I love Moscow Mules and so I (with the suggestion of a friend that knows us so well ;-)) had fun with a bit of a twist to it, making it ours and named it the Breton Bay Mule 🙂

I ADORE the way the Bourbon Tasting Bar turned out!!

A huge thank you to Ron, Kathy’s husband who was the ring leader for hanging every single light in the back yard.  My father-in-law was a huge help to Ron and Peter may have helped just a teeny bit 😉

These were the favor cookies handed out to guests when they left.  Another beautiful job by Kathryn’s Crafty Cakes!!  The poem is by myself and my Mom (well, mostly my Mom!!).

Peter's 40th Birthday Party

Erin from LexDesignsCo created this perfect invitation for the party.  I asked her for rustic and a bit masculine…she nailed it.  She also created the Bourbon Bar information cards, the Bourbon labels, the cookie favor poem cards and the Peter poster.  I highly recommend her and her Etsy shop!!

This is my family…my amazing parents, my brother Miles, and my sister Colleen (not pictured, my youngest brother Michael)

I am doing a post on the outfit I wore to the party on Wednesday!!  It’s one of my favorites so I am super excited about the post!!

Photography by Sally Wise.  THANK YOU for capturing this special party for us!!  We will treasure the book you gave us FOREVER!!

I absolutely love party planning and you nailed it with this theme! LOVE the whiskey barrels and string lights! Your tablescapes with the greenery garnish is perfect, it’s all in the details and you nailed it beautifully!
