Kentucky Derby Style

Bucket List Item #37.  Kentucky Derby!!

This was so. much. fun.  The Kentucky Derby will certainly be checked off the list, and this is FOR SURE something I would wear.  I love the idea of a fascinator because it seems so much more manageable (plus, when it’s under $30, how can you go wrong?!?).  Mint Julep in one hand, breathtakingly gorgeous Clydesdale in the other, amazing!!

I will be throwing Shay’s birthday party on Race Day, but if I weren’t I would have so much fun hosting a Kentucky Derby Party.  My research would include websites like these for DIYs and fun ideas.  I hope you find some inspiration!

A special THANK YOU to everyone at Suttler Post Farm Clydesdales in Chaptico for allowing me to use the farm.  This is what I LOVE about my small town.  There are truly so many amazing and unique things here in Southern Maryland and everyone is so wonderful and accommodating and honestly, like family.  The Mast family that owns and runs the farm are friends of my family since I can remember.  Myself, my siblings and Erica and Danny all attended Mother Catherine Spalding School and then off to High School together. 20 years later, we are raising our own babies and always running into one another around town.

Thank you to my girlfriend Jen for taking these amazing pictures.

Amazing how small the world is!! My husband is from the suburbs of Detroit but swears he’s never experienced such a “small town” like St Mary’s where we run into someone with a connection to St Mary’s no matter where we are in the world (including Paris, Caribbean cruise and Iraq for heavens sake!!).

That’s crazy! Same here though! Neither of my parents are from Maryland so St Marys has never really felt like home but it’s amazing how many people are connected to there! If I’m ever back in town we should organize a style collective meet up in DC! That would be fun!!
